The
available ceramic bisque is individually handmade by Darlene
of Bitsnbobs. The chalkware is produced in my very small
collection of antique reproduction chocolate molds. High
quality plaster is used. Each piece is then cleaned and
sealed. The ceramic bisque has been cast with earthenware
slip, cleaned and fired to cone 04. Ceramic bisque is a
wonderful 3 dimensional surface to paint on. The
chalkware and ceramic bisque come to you unpainted and are
ready for you to apply your favorite brand of acrylic craft
hobby paint. My favorite brands of paint are Decoart Americana,
Jo Sonja and Delta Ceramcoat to name a few.
Applying
2 smooth coats of paint as a base is recommended. For details,
1 coat is usually all that is needed. Antiquing may be done
after your painting is finished and dry. Oil based or water
based may be used.
Two
to 3 coats of acrylic varnish is recommended to keep your
piece from chipping or scratching. If using an oil based
antiquing solution, please refer to the directions on your
varnish bottle. Most of the major hobby craft paint companies
make their own varnish. Please keep in mind that these varnishes
come in matte, satin or gloss. Choose the appropriate sheen
level for your piece. Spray finishes may also be applied.
